PTA Newsletter

Dear RLS Families:

The PTA wants to thank you for coming out on Saturday, September 28 to our well-attended first General Meeting of the school year!  Our meeting agenda included: review and approval of the revised 2019-20 RLS calendar and proposed budget, updates from Principal Lau-Yee, super fun icebreaker and improving communication with families to ensure everyone stays informed.  After the meeting, the beautification of our garden was underway!  Many of our families rolled up their sleeves to help with raking, weeding, pruning, and planting!  Everyone feasted on delicious BBQ style grub afterwards!  Thank you to all those who came out to lend a hand to make this event so successful!

Family & Friends Giving Campaign: The RLS families truly make this school what it is.  Together, with your support and donation, we will continue to invest in meaningful programs that will enrich our children’s learning and education.  Please consider donating to our Family & Friends Giving Campaign!  For more information about this year’s giving campaign, please click here.  Thank you so very much for your support!

Upcoming Events:

October 19: SFUSD Enrollment Fair

October 28 – November 1: Spirit Week
Let’s celebrate our school pride the week of October 28 by wearing your Dolphin gear* on Monday and Friday, with themed (to be determined) dress up days on Tuesday and Wednesday!
*Dolphin Gear: If you haven’t done so, submit your order form (with payment) today for your child’s Dolphin wear!
**For sale: The PTA is clearing out vintage Dolphin gear at “1/2 off!”  We are selling until it’s all gone!

October 31: RLS Fall Fest
In an effort to be all-inclusive, RLS has moved from the tradition of celebrating Halloween to hosting a Fall Festival, 8:45 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.!  The RLS Fall Fest celebrates a season!  Autumn is a wonderful time of year for our children to learn about the changing colors of leaves, how pumpkin grows, and even counting the number of apples ripening in a tree!  We have super fun Fall Fest games and activities lined up, with a culmination of a school parade in the afternoon.  Costumes are optional for your child.  If you can spare some time, please sign up here to volunteer to run a game/activity booth.

We Love Our Volunteers!
Lastly, getting involved is one of the best ways to show our children that you take an interest in their education and support RLS! Parent volunteers are so essential to organizing and chaperoning various fundraising events and other school activities throughout the school year. Please click here to complete the Parent Volunteer Sign Up Form. No matter how much time (or how little time) you have, we welcome your help!

RLS in the News!

We made the news as high school students from Lincoln HS Green Academy came to our school to teach our second graders the importance of keeping our oceans and waterways clean. Thank you, Lincoln HS seniors and our own teacher Seed from Education Outside for taking the time to educate our students the value of caring for the world we live in.

Holiday Donation Drive

Thank you to all who donated to our first annual giving drive! The RLS community really came together to help out a great organization -- Compass Family Services who serve thousands of homeless families each year.

We collected a total of 108 boxes! All were dropped off to one of Compass's four locations this past Friday. They were in awe to see the care that was put into packaging each box and were touched to see each box personalized with a special note.

Thank you to Mrs. Lau-Yee for suggesting that our kids get involved to give back, to teachers who took on the shoeboxes as a class project, and to parents who packed boxes with their kids. We know our Dolphins all learned a great lesson this holiday season.

Happy Holidays!

Fifth Grader Promotion Ceremony

All 5th grade parents & guardians:

We would like to announce that the 5th grade promotion ceremony will be held on Tuesday, May 24th, from 10 am - 1:00 pm in the school auditorium.

A cake reception in the Cafeteria will immediately following the promotion ceremony.  Please mark on your calendar and more details will be forthcoming.

Dear 4th Grade Parents and Guardians:

As a RLS tradition, 4th grade parents help / volunteer at the 5th Grade Promotion ceremony as ushers and servers.  This allows the 5th grade parents (who do all the planning and decoration setup for the ceremony) to relax and enjoy watching their children get promoted.

Please volunteer this year - you will get a peek into what the promotion ceremony is like so you are ready next year.  Plan to hand out programs, direct family/guests to the line, assist them to their seats, set-up & serve refreshments, and clean up afterwards.

Please email if you are interested to help out on Tuesday May 24th tentatively time from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.  Please mark your calendar and more details will be forthcoming.
